Teaching

The Royal Conservatory Certified TeacherIn addition to her love for performing, Lisa is a passionate teacher that has taught students of all ages both privately and through music schools since 2001. At the University of Toronto, Lisa is a teaching assistant for the Children’s Piano Pedagogy Program.  Lisa has also worked as a teaching assistant for the undergraduate keyboard skills class. Lisa’s Masters research topics included the benefits of music study in early childhood years. Further, for her doctoral dissertation, ‘Teaching Music with Keyboard Improvisation: A Pedagogical Journey Involving Four Older Adults’, Lisa taught group musicianship classes at the Dunfield Retirement Residency in 2013.

Lisa believes that a strong student to teacher relationship is important as the foundation for a stable and healthy learning environment.  Even though not all students who take piano lessons will end up pursuing a career in music, the center of Lisa’s teaching philosophy focuses upon being able to make a difference in her students lives by providing an enjoyable and individually-tailored approach to music making.  No matter what age, Lisa’s objective is to provide her students with a greater appreciation for all aspects of music.
